You pals asked for arm exercises, so Mr. Ry and I shot these vids for you yesterday, along with a couple more to come. It’s as close as we can get to dragging you through the park with us!

What’s the name? What do I look for when I go to the store to purchase this? You’re looking good, Mizz Lynne.

    • Mr. Ry says:

You just need a good pair of resistance bands. It’s good to buy a 3 pack that has light, medium, and well shall I say terribly difficult resistance, but in the beginning you just need the light resistance ones as we want lighter resistance and more reps, like 15 to 20 or even 25 reps. I’ll send Lynne a link to my favorite bands and get them up in the store! My biggest advice when buying resistance bands is to make sure the handle is something that is strong, but comfortable. You may also want to invest in a pair of gloves for working out, they really help! I’m partial to DaKine Mountain Biking gloves because they are made of neoprene, are lightweight, and nearly indestructible!

  2. Mr. Ry says:

Love the vids! I’ve been told I laugh like Fran Drescher, but I was surprised to hear I don’t sound too terrible on film. The exercises I have Lynne doing change every week and usually every session so there will be much more to come! If you have requests Facebabes let us know and we will try and help you target those areas that…need targeting. I’m hearing from Lynne that she’s gotten requests about that pesky underarm area that can ruin your day when trying on certain types of strappy dresses and shirts. I’m working on my camera skills so I hope I didn’t make anyone too dizzy on that last vid 😉
    Mr. Ry

    • stephl says:

Love the vids, keep ’em coming! And yes ‘that pesky underarm area’ is a biggee. Another area for me is the thighs!

      • Mr. Ry says:

What part of your thigh Stephl? Like the middle of your body where your two thighs meet? We do some jump squats we haven’t shown you yet and balance lunges that are a good way to start the process of toning your thighs and calves without overdoing it and causing missed workouts. Thanks for your comment!

        • stephl says:

Yes, the upper/inner thighs is what I was referring to. Thanks for the reply. And thanks for helping us out!

  3. Lynne says:

Oh, hey Mizz Rose! This is just an “exercise band.” Get it anywhere they sell exercise stuff. They have different colors for different strengths; red is probably fine for you. Keep it out of the sun (don’t leave it in a broiling car) or it will degrade and get weaker. Best kind have a black section in the middle to make it stronger around trees. They’re great because you can take them anywhere you go, and they’re really effective.

  4. Kelley Marie says:

Thanks Lynne for posting and reminding us to keep moving! Lovely place looks so peaceful.

  5. Rose says:

Thanks Mizz Lynne and Mr.Ry! I will be purchasing this real soon. Ry, your video skills are fine. Thanks for sharing! Lynne, I can’t begin to thank you enough for all your help. Chris, Dev, and I are cooking up a plan. We’re on the move.

  6. Larissa says:

Yay!! I can’t wait to try these. I’m always looking for effective upper body workouts….. Posting as I’m on the treadmill!

  7. cda says:

Adding the Pilates work-out in tomorrow morning with additional arm exercises as that is my weak spot. Thanks for the vids and inspiration!

  8. ClaudiaM says:

Thank you Lynne!! mmm, will have to try and find a way to use the resistance band indoors. I will have to look that up. Beautiful park!

  9. Claudia Orieux via Facebook says:

I need to do too Michelle.

  10. I’ve had some really serious arm muscles the past few years from carrying babies around, now that they are both older, I need some help from them becoming flabby!

    • Mr. Ry says:

Are you ready for super slow pushups? At the last National Academy of Sports Medicine workshop I attended they had us doing killer pushups that are killer. You start at the bottom core contracted, butt slightly elevated, arms under your shoulder and the push up is 1 second. When you are at the top you slowly lower down for 3 seconds till your nose is almost to the ground and hold for ugh 2 seconds and repeat. Just make sure your body is a straight line and you are contracting your core the whole time. When I say contracting your core I want you to imagine you are in a standing position and you want your belly button to move towards the back of your body and slightly up towards your head. If you have a long mirror you can practice these in front of you will be a much better critic for yourself on your form.

  11. Destiny says:

Fabulous!! You’re lookin’ great, Auntie L.:)

  12. Chanda says:

Thanks Mizz Lynne and Mr. Ry! Are resistance bands more effective than dumbbells or are dumbbells just passé now? 🙂

    • Mr. Ry says:

Hey Chanda! I agree with Lynne, bands are excellent to take with you to use on trees in a beautiful forest or even to use on a park bench. It’s all about mixing them up so your body doesn’t adapt to the workout and plateau. Instead alternate between workouts if you can as free weights work your body differently than resistance bands. If you have access to dumbbells and a bench that is a great way to get in all sorts of exercises, I”ll have to see how we can get Lynne access to those too! I did a workshop in Las Vegas at the American College or Sports Medicine’s Annual summit on the TRX suspension trainer and I’m very interested to get one of those in the near future.
      Mr. Ry

  13. Lynne says:

NO, free weights are fine — it’s all good! Just do something! Whatever you like to do! Bands are just easier to carry around with you.

  14. Mr. Ry says:

So when do I get to have my picture Auntie L.? Waiting for moderator approval so I’m not a faceless picture 🙂

    • Mr. Ry says:

      Hooray! Thanks 🙂

      • klduck says:

Mr. Ry, have you workout with ViPR? Our gym just got some for the Performance Center, and I just tried them out today. I wasn’t impressed with the “fancy rubber tube” laying against the wall, but once I got to working with it, I quickly changed my tune. LOL!! My husband and I had a blast getting a feel for them, and I got a great workout using the 10 kg tube. I just wondered if you used them, and if so, if you had any favorite exercises.

        • Lynne says:

Kori, Mr. Ry is on the road for a few days; not sure if he’ll get back to us til then, but I hope so. He’s totally abandoned me for the moment! Aaaaauuugh! Not sure if he can monitor the blog from wherever the heck he is. RRRRYYYYYY! Come in, RYYYY!

          • klduck says:

Hahahahahaha… You’ve been left to your own fitness devices?? You’re being a good girl, right? Getting out there…feeling the burn?? 😉 I’ve let myself down the last couple of week. I’ve only worked out 5 days instead of 6, and I’m starting to have issues with my shins…again. “/ Grrrrrrr….

  15. klduck says:

Looking good, Ms Lynne! Looks like a lovely place for a nice 5 mile run…well, with my slow 11:22 pace, it’s not really a run is it. LOL!! Took my daughter to the gym again today. She was able to bust out 7 sets of 7 pushups right with me, and we don’t do “girl” pushups either. 😉 She did out do me on wall sits, but watching her try to do jackknives with TRX straps is pure entertainment. LOL!! Keep it up, Lynne!

  16. Dev says:

Oh My I Love This! Thanks Ry and Lynne for posting! I have my bands but great to know how to use them while out and about!

  17. mcater12 says:

loving the vid!!!! i can’t wait to try this out.

  18. Any help I can get for Arms is great!! My upper arms are the scariest!! Loving this, Thank You Lynne Bowman 🙂
